Horizon Bank Awards Scholarships to Northwest Indiana Students
The Horizon Bank Minority Scholarship Program awarded ten, $1,000 scholarships to area high school students through the Urban League of Northwest Indiana. The awards were presented during a special, online red-carpet ceremony on June 25th.
Recipients of the Horizon Bank scholarships included: Tomiya Hamer, Trinitee Hassan, Tyler Hemmons (who was recognized with both a mid-year 2019 scholarship, and one for the 2020 year), Laurentha Horton, Indya Lewis, Tyler Peppers, Mareeya Amiyah Scully, Alexis Wood, and Andrea Zaknoun.
“Horizon has had a longstanding commitment to our local communities, and we are proud to invest in higher education for minority students,” said Yolanda Davis, Vice President, Community Reinvestment Act Officer. “It’s our hope
that these students will become leaders in their local communities and businesses upon completion of their degrees. Their own investment of time and talents will continue to enhance and strengthen those communities. We can’t wait to see what
they accomplish!”
Horizon’s Diversity Business Council developed the Minority Scholarship Program to encourage minority students to pursue higher educations. The scholarships awarded were based on academic achievement, demonstrated
leadership, and potential. The application process was administered through a partnership with the Urban League of NWI Inc., along with community leaders who chose the recipients based upon scoring of set criteria.
