Horizon Bank Awards $5,000 Grant to Opportunity Enterprises
Michigan City, IN – Horizon Bank is pleased to announce the recent grant awarded to Opportunity Enterprises (OE) in the amount of $5,000. The funds will be used toward their respite center build.
The new Lakeside Respite Center is located at OE’s Lake Eliza property, near the border of Lake and Porter counties. This build will increase their capacity to serve adults and children with disabilities along with their caretakers. The center will provide a valuable opportunity for caregivers to schedule time for themselves while giving their loved ones a sense of community, independence and time to interact with peers and friends. The new Center will feature separate adult and children wings, a kitchen with wheelchair accessible countertops, multiple living rooms and a multi-sensory therapeutic room.
Per the CDC, one in six children are reported to have a developmental disability. Locally, over 11,700 individuals under the age of thirty-four are diagnosed with a cognitive disability, while seventy-five percent of people with a disability are living with an aging parent or caregiver.
