Tips to Stay Safe While Online

These days, are you finding yourself spending a lot of time online whether you are working remote, buying groceries online, shopping etc? Check out our top 3 ways to stay safe.

That said, this is a good time to brush up on your internet security protocols. Why? Because connecting personal devices to corporate/enterprise equipment and tools can leave both you and companies even more exposed to cyber threats.

Use increased caution. Here are a few key things to think about when online at home:

  1. Watch out for phishing schemes. Don’t click on links sent to you via email, or download documents without verifying the source. When hackers replicate trusted email senders, and you click their links or try to open their documents, they can quickly attack your device — and potentially, those of your employer — via malware, ID theft, and more.
  2. Use a virtual private network (VPN) when possible. That means, as coffee shops and restaurants begin to open back up, you may still want to avoid using these open Wi-Fi networks. Getting online from a secured, private network will help you keep your device, and all your data, safer.
  3. Change your passwords! If you haven’t updated your passwords lately, make sure you’re not using the same ones over and over for multiple apps, websites, business logins, etc. Instead, use this time to update these and stat fresh.

Tip: Your web browser likely has a tool that will save your passwords for you — and will offer suggestions for more secure passwords. So use these, and tell your browser to store the passwords for you so don’t need to keep track.
