The State of Washington's Department of Financial Institutions has created an informative web page especially dedicated to helping citizens of Washington who are facing foreclosure. You can find it on the DFI's website.
The web page provides the following important information:
- HUD's toll free number that you can call to obtain a list of local HUD-approved housing counselors is 1.800.569.4287
- The Department of Financial Institutions' referral number for housing counselors, or other legal assistance is 1.877.894.HOME (4663)
- The number for the Northwest Justice Project that services low-income persons and persons age 60 and older is 1.800.997.8944 (weekdays between 2 and 4:30 p.m.)
Information you will need
To prepare yourself to speak with a Horizon Bank Credit Administration Representative or a housing counseling agency, assemble the following documentation:
- Two most recent paystubs, or documentation of other monthly income such as social security
- A copy of your most recent tax returns
- Proof of owner-occupancy (copy of a recent telephone bill or other utility bill)
- A current mortgage payment statement
- Information about assets
- Information about any subordinate lien mortgages on your home
- Account balances, line limits (if any) and required payments for all debts
- A letter describing why your mortgage is unaffordable (e.g., why your income is reduced or expenses are increased)
